1 Kings 19
9 There he came to a cave and lodged in it. And behold, the word of the Lord came to him, and he said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” 10 He said, “I have been very jealous for the Lord, the God of hosts. For the people of Israel have forsaken your covenant, thrown down your altars, and killed your prophets with the sword, and I, even I only, am left, and they seek my life, to take it away.” 11 And he said, “Go out and stand on the mount before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. 12 And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper. 13 And when Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. And behold, there came a voice to him and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” 14 He said, “I have been very jealous for the Lord, the God of hosts. For the people of Israel have forsaken your covenant, thrown down your altars, and killed your prophets with the sword, and I, even I only, am left, and they seek my life, to take it away.”
After receiving God’s care for him in rest and recovery, Elijah continues on his journey to the Mount of God to seek His presence. But, Elijah understands God’s immense holiness and hides, first in a cave and later by wrapping a cloak around his face. Here, we continue to see the shepherding care of our God. The God who commands the wind, earthquakes, and fire comes to Elijah with a gentle whisper, asking him: “what’s wrong?” And, Elijah is able to be completely honest with God about what is bothering him.
Unlike Elijah, who had to cover his face before God, because of what Jesus did for us on the Cross, we are able are to behold the glory of God with unveiled faces (2 Corinthians 3:18). We are able to approach God with boldness and confidence (Ephesians 3:12). As the writer of Hebrews encourages us: “Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16)
Like a loving parent, God cares about us and wants to know what is bothering us. He knows everything already, but He wants us to have that kind of connection and relationship with us. He wants to be merciful and gracious to us in our time of need.
Let’s boldly approach His throne of grace with confidence and reconnect with Him. What does He want to say to you? What do you want to say to Him?

9 เอลียาห์มาถึงถ้ำและค้างแรมในนั้น และดูเถิด พระผู้เป็นเจ้ากล่าวกับท่านว่า “เอลียาห์ เจ้ามาทำอะไรที่นี่” 10 ท่านตอบว่า “ข้าพเจ้ารับใช้พระผู้เป็นเจ้า พระเจ้าจอมโยธาอย่างเอาจริงเอาจัง แต่ชาวอิสราเอลได้ทอดทิ้งพันธสัญญาของพระองค์ ทำลายแท่นบูชาของพระองค์ และฆ่าฟันบรรดาผู้เผยคำกล่าวของพระองค์ เหลือแต่ข้าพเจ้าเพียงคนเดียว และพวกเขาก็ได้ตามหาข้าพเจ้า เพื่อจะเอาชีวิตของข้าพเจ้าไปเสีย” 11 พระองค์กล่าวว่า “จงออกไป ไปยืนบนภูเขา เบื้องหน้าพระผู้เป็นเจ้า” และดูเถิด พระผู้เป็นเจ้าผ่านไป ลมอันแรงกล้าได้แยกภูเขาให้แตกออกเป็นเสี่ยงๆ ณ เบื้องหน้าพระผู้เป็นเจ้า แต่พระผู้เป็นเจ้าไม่ได้สถิตในลม และภายหลังลม ก็เกิดแผ่นดินไหว แต่พระผู้เป็นเจ้าไม่ได้สถิตในแผ่นดินไหว 12 ภายหลังแผ่นดินไหว ก็เกิดไฟ แต่พระผู้เป็นเจ้าไม่ได้สถิตในไฟ และภายหลังไฟ ก็เกิดเสียงแผ่วเบา 13 เมื่อเอลียาห์ได้ยินเสียง ท่านก็ใช้เสื้อคลุมของท่านปิดหน้า และออกไปยืนที่ปากถ้ำ และดูเถิด มีเสียงกล่าวกับท่านว่า “เอลียาห์ เจ้ามาทำอะไรที่นี่” 14 ท่านตอบว่า “ข้าพเจ้ารับใช้พระผู้เป็นเจ้า พระเจ้าจอมโยธาอย่างเอาจริงเอาจัง แต่ชาวอิสราเอลได้ทอดทิ้งพันธสัญญาของพระองค์ ทำลายแท่นบูชาของพระองค์ และฆ่าฟันบรรดาผู้เผยคำกล่าวของพระองค์ เหลือแต่ข้าพเจ้าเพียงคนเดียว และพวกเขาก็ได้ตามหาข้าพเจ้า เพื่อจะเอาชีวิตของข้าพเจ้าไปเสีย”
หลังจากได้รับการดูแลจากพระเจ้าเพื่อพักผ่อนและพักฟื้น เอลียาห์เดินทางต่อไปยังภูเขาของพระเจ้าเพื่อแสวงหาการสถิตย์ของพระองค์ แต่เอลียาห์เข้าใจถึงความบริสุทธิ์อันยิ่งใหญ่ของพระเจ้าและซ่อนตัวอยู่ ครั้งแรกในถ้ำและต่อมาโดยการพันเสื้อคลุมรอบใบหน้าของเขา ที่นี่เรายังคงเห็นการดูแลเอาใจใส่ของพระเจ้าของเราต่อไป พระเจ้าผู้ทรงบัญชาลม แผ่นดินไหว และไฟเสด็จมาหาเอลียาห์ด้วยเสียงกระซิบแผ่วเบา และถามเขาว่า “เกิดอะไรขึ้น?” และเอลียาห์สามารถซื่อสัตย์ต่อพระเจ้าได้อย่างสมบูรณ์เกี่ยวกับสิ่งที่รบกวนใจเขา
ต่างจากเอลียาห์ที่ต้องปิดหน้าต่อพระพักตร์พระเจ้า เพราะสิ่งที่พระเยซูทรงกระทำเพื่อเราบนไม้กางเขน เราจึงสามารถเห็นพระสิริของพระเจ้าโดยไม่มีผ้าคลุมหน้าได้ (2 โครินธ์ 3:18) เราสามารถเข้าเฝ้าพระเจ้าด้วยความกล้าหาญและความมั่นใจ (เอเฟซัส 3:12) ดังที่ผู้เขียนฮีบรูนุนใจเราว่า “ดังนั้น ขอให้เราทั้งหลายเข้าไปใกล้ให้ถึงบัลลังก์แห่งพระคุณด้วยความมั่นใจ เพื่อเราจะได้รับความเมตตา และพบพระคุณเพื่อช่วยเราในยามจำเป็น” (ฮีบรู 4:16)
เช่นเดียวกับพ่อแม่ที่รักใคร่ พระเจ้าทรงห่วงใยเราและต้องการทราบว่าเรามีปัญหาอะไรบ้าง พระองค์ทรงรู้ทุกอย่างแล้ว แต่พระองค์ทรงต้องการให้เรามีความสัมพันธ์กับเรา พระองค์ทรงต้องการแสดงความเมตตาและพระคุณแก่เราในเวลาที่ต้องการ
ขอให้เราเข้าใกล้บัลลังก์แห่งพระคุณของพระองค์อย่างกล้าหาญด้วยความมั่นใจและเชื่อมต่อความสัมพันธ์กับพระเจ้าอีกครั้ง พระองค์ต้องการพูดอะไรกับคุณ? คุณอยากจะพูดอะไรกับพระองค์?
